The addition of the Airbus A330 Freighter, used exclusively to transport cargo, increases Tampa's capacity and makes it the first airline in the Americas to operate this modern aircraft.
On Thursday, December 20, 2012, Tampa Cargo, AviancaTaca Holding’s cargo airline based in Colombia, received the first of four new Airbus A330-200 Freighter aircraft from the European manufacturer.
The addition of this new eco-efficient aircraft with its capacity to carry 70 tonnes, will allow Tampa to strengthen its presence in all the markets of Latin America where it operates.
The new Airbus A330-200F is the world’s most modern mid-size freighter, permitting the airline to service both regional and intercontinental destinations. These aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 772 engines and with a range capability of up to 4,000nm, form part of the strategy designed by AviancaTaca to strengthen their cargo transportation capacity in the region.
AviancaTaca's CEO, Fabio Villegas Ramirez commented: "The incorporation to the fleet and entry into service of this new Airbus A330-200F confirms Tampa Cargo's progress in achieving its plan of modernization, expansion and consolidation, as we seek to offer a superior service to clients who need to ship goods and merchandise across the length and breadth of the Americas.”
“With the capacity and range to profitably serve the growing cargo markets of Latin America, the A330-200F is the ideal aircraft for freight operators in the region”, noted John Leahy, Airbus’ Chief Operating Officer - Customers. “Airbus is pleased that Tampa Cargo will be the first cargo airline in the region to benefit from the exceptional economics that the A330-200F offers” he added.
To date, Airbus has sold 190 aircraft to AviancaTaca Holding and delivered 100 aircraft which are currently in service on mid and long range routes of the group airlines in the Americas and Europe.
In total, Airbus has sold more than 750 aircraft to various operators in Latin America and the Caribbean and currently have firm orders for more than 370 planes. Over the past 10 years, Airbus has tripled the size of its service fleet in the region and has effected delivery of more than 60 percent of the aircraft on order by airlines.
The A330 Freighter brings joy to the children of Colombia and El Salvador
As part of the celebration surrounding the delivery of the first exclusive Airbus freight aircraft, the Airbus Foundation, AviancaTaca Holding and Tampa Cargo delivered gifts to underprivileged children in Colombia and El Salvador through 9 foundations. More than 1,000 top quality toys were donated by Airbus employees in France, Germany and the UK. They were collected by Aviation SansFrontières and flown to Colombia aboard the first A330 Freighter in the region and were delivered to minors in low income areas of both countries.
